Strong Pitching and Offense Leads Willmar to 9-1 Victory

ROCHESTER, Minn. - Willmar scored runs in six different innings, including three runs in the sixth, en route to a 9-1 victory at Mayo Field Saturday night against the Rochester Honkers.

Anthony Consiglio, a freshman from Western Nevada College, pitched five scoreless innings to earn the victory in his first start of the season, allowing only one hit while striking out five. Chris Gonzales (Point Loma Nazarene) relieved Consiglio to begin the sixth inning and allowed only one hit while recording three strikeouts in three innings. Jack Shannon, a sophomore from San Diego, made his first appearance for the Stingers and gave up one unearned run while striking out one hitter in the ninth.

Willmar scored its first run in the third inning when Sean Dwyer came home on an RBI-groundout by Jarid Scarafiotti. Scarafiotti picked up another RBI in the sixth when his single plated Jason Leblebijian. The Stingers scored twice more in the frame on separate passed balls. Scarafiotti, a junior from Stephen F. Austin, finished the game 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Leblebijian went 1-for-4 in the contest. The sophomore shortstop from Bradley has at least one hit in all four games this season for Willmar.

Anthony Hincy (Doane College) led the Stingers with three hits in five at-bats while also posting a stolen base, a walk and a run scored. John Haberman (Pacific) and Jake Stinnett (Maryland) each went 2-for-5 in the contest. Haberman picked up his second RBI of the season on a double in the eighth inning.

Tyler Zupcic (Appalachian State) scored twice in the game after going 1-for-5, while Jordan Brown (Kansas) added a run and an RBI as part of a 1-for-3 performance.

Willmar will conclude its two-game series with Rochester Sunday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. The Stingers will then have two consecutive road games at Alexandria before returning home June 8 for Baseball Night presented by Arnold's of Willmar. The first 250 kids 14 years of age and under will receive a Stingers logo baseball at the June 8 ballgame, which begins at 7:05 p.m.
