
MoonDogs Winning Streak Continues with Taylor's Complete Game

Mankato Minn- Mankato MoonDogs remain undefeated in Northwoods League action as they defeated the St. Cloud River Bats by a final of 9-3 on Sunday night.
The River Bats scored three runs in the top of the first inning, but the MoonDog offense helped starter Logan Taylor (Northeast Texas) by putting three runs on the board in the bottom of the first. Chris Ross (Montevallo) led off the inning with a double and then advanced to third on a Burney Mitchem (Dayton) wild pitch. Zach Borenstein (Eastern Illinois) then led a two out rally by doubling and scoring Ross from third. Mitchem then walked two MoonDog batters and Scott Sommerfeld (Missouri) singled, scoring Borenstein and Cody Ferrell (Seminole St.), who walked earlier in the inning.
Taylor then threw eight scoreless innings to keep the River Bats at bay. Taylor finished the complete game by scattering seven hits with four strikeouts, and not allowing any extra base hits throughout the rest of the game.
The MoonDog then added to their lead in the bottom of the third inning when Borenstein singled, then stole second. Ferrell singled which advanced Borenstein to third, and then Borenstein scored. Evan Frazar (Galveston) had 3 stolen bases to lead MoonDogs who, as a team had 8 stolen bases on the game.
The MoonDog defense helped their pitcher Logan Taylor, get out of a jam in the top of the fourth inning when the bases were loaded and River Bat Bryan Peters (Nebraska) grounded into a double play to end the inning.
The scoring for the MoonDogs continued in the bottom of the fifth when Ferrell advanced to first on a fielder's choice and Borenstein advanced to third from first on an error by the River Bat second baseman C.J. Gillman (Dayton) scoring Evan Frazar from third. Scott Sommerfeld singled and scored Borenstein from third.
Blair Moore (San Diego St.) continued his early season hot hitting by hitting a solo home run in the bottom of the 6th inning that hit the scoreboard in right field.
In the bottom of the eighth Blair Moore walked and then Chris Ross singled advancing Moore to second. Moore advanced to third on a fielders' choice and then scored on a PITCHER SCHOOL wild pitch which concluded the MoonDogs' scoring for the evening.
The MoonDogs now head north on a five game road trip to Duluth battling the Huskies, and then to Alexandria to square off against the Beetles before returning home Saturday June 11th for a three game weekend series against the Brainerd Lunkers. Saturday is MAYBA/MAGFA Night. All kids wearing their MAYBA or MAGFA jerseys get in free with a paid adult!
