Rochester Honkers News Release
The Honkers pitching woes continued Saturday night against the Willmar Stingers. The Honkers issued nine walks, as well as one hit batsman, en route to a 9-1 loss in game one of a two game set against the Stingers.
Nick Dolsky (So, Nebraska) got the start on the mound for the Honkers, pitching 3.2 innings, only allowing two hits, but walking eight. Three runners did cross the plate with Dolsky on the hill, however neither of them were earned.
The Honkers fielding was also down again today, as five errors were made in the field. Of the nine runs the Stingers managed, only two were earned.
The Honkers struggled in the hitting department, getting shut down by the three Stinger pitchers. Anthony Consiglio got the start on the hill for Willmar pitching the first five innings, and getting the win. Consiglio's official line was 5.0 innings, zero runs on one hit, and five strikeouts, he did walk five batters also.
Willmar did do some work with their bats however, managing twelve hits on the night. Quite the opposite of the Honkers bats, who couldn't find a gap all day.
The Honkers had little bright spots in the batting order today, only earning two hits in the nine innings. Jake Marasco (So, Kansas) just missed a homerun in the eigth inning, hitting the top of the fence in the left field power alley. Marasco would get stranded on base.
Aaron Siefken (Jr, Bethany Lutheran) would come around to score after getting walked, a fielders choice, wild pitch and a pass ball, marking an unearned run for the Willmar pitching staff.
The Honkers will hope the change in game time tomorrow helps their odds, when both teams come back tomorrow for a Sunday matinee. Siefken will get the nod on the mound from head coach Stefan McGovern. Tanner Banks will be the starter for Willmar. Tanner has one win on the season, in 2.1 innings of relief. Game time is 1:05 pm, June 5, at Mayo Field.
