News and Notes:
The Situation
The Grizzlies at 10-9-0-1 enter the week unbeaten in seven of their last eight games and in a second place tie with the Alaska Aces in the West Division. Utah is currently 2-0-0-1 during the first three games of their season-long ten-game home stand after collecting five of a possible six points versus Stockton in the three-game series which ended Saturday.
At The E-Center
Utah is 6-2-0-1 overall this season on home ice. All Utah non-wins at home have come by one goal.
A Hot Week
Keith Johnson and Scott Burt entered Sunday tied for the league lead with five goals during this past week (11/26-12/1). Burt also added two assists during the week.
Also Among The League's Scoring Leaders
Keith Johnson enters Sunday second in the ECHL with 14 goals scored and in a first-place tie among all ECHL rookies. Scott Burt is 10th in the league in overall scoring with 11 goals and 12 assists in 23 games.
Majors And Minors
Utah rookie Micheal Haley is tied for the ECHL lead with 10 major penalties and is third in the league with 91 penalty minutes. Haley is fourth on the Grizzlies in scoring with ten goals, five assists and a plus-eight.
The New Guy
Utah goaltender Nathan Lawson is 2-0-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against average, a .969 save percentage and one shutout (4-0, Stockton, December 1) since being claimed off of waivers and signed by Utah last week.
The New Guy's Old Team
Monday and Tuesday, the Grizzlies will host Nathan Lawson's former team the Phoenix RoadRunners. The rookie went 3-2-0-0 with a 3.01 goals against average and a .911 save percentage in Phoenix. In his only meeting against Utah with Phoenix, Lawson collected his first professional shutout in his pro debut stopping 27 Utah shots.
The Other Guy
Utah goaltender Mike Mole enters Sunday tied for second in the league with eight wins. He is 8-4-0-1 overall with a 3.11 goals against average and a save percentage of .897.
The Disaster In The Desert
The Grizzlies are looking for revenge on Phoenix who swept Utah in three-straight games at US Airways Center opening weekend (October 19-21). The RoadRunners outscored Utah 16-4 in the forgettable series.
662 Teddy Bears Donated
662 stuffed animals were thrown onto the ice Saturday following Utah's first goal during the team's annual "Teddy Bear Toss." The toys will be donated to patients at Primary Children's Medical Center during the team's annual visit Monday, December 17.
