Bakersfield Condors News Release

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Bakersfield Condors lost to the Fresno Falcons Saturday night, 7- 6, in front of 7,207, at Rabobank Arena in downtown Bakersfield. Condors forward Andrew Ianiero tied the game late in the third, but, after a scoreless overtime, Fresno edged Bakersfield in the shootout.

The Condors (5-10-4, 14 points) picked up right where they left off Friday night, taking the lead after just 1:08 ticked off the clock in the first. Bakersfield center Tim Konsorada once again sparked the Condors' offense with his 11th tally of the season, putting the Condors up 1-0 early. The Falcons (7-6-3, 17 points) only needed eight seconds to tie the game, as Fresno forward Jarrett Konkle put the puck past Condor goalie Yutaka Fukufuji at the 1:16 mark of the first. The Falcons kept the pressure on with back-to-back goals from forward Igor Gongalsky to take the lead, 3-1, after one.

Fresno continued to build on its lead in the second period, going up 4-1 after a power-play score from Falcon forward Oren Eizenman. Down by three, Condors captain Sean Venedam took it upon himself to get his team back in the game, and did just that, scoring two goals in the span of just 1:16 of game play to cut the deficit to one goal, 4-3. The two goals were Venedam's sixth and seventh on the year. Konsorada picked up assists on both of the goals and defensemen David Kudelka and Joe Dustin each assisted one of Venedam's goals. The Falcons stretched the lead back to two goals at the 15:32 mark of the second when Fresno forward Matt Stefanishion backhanded a shot past the sprawling Fukufuji for Fresno's fifth goal of the contest.

Gongalsky opened the third period with his third goal of the game, coming only 41 seconds into the frame to put Bakersfield behind, 6-3. With Bakersfield goalie Jamie Hodson taking over the netminding duties for Fukufuji after Gongalsky's goal, the Condors battled back and notched two consecutive tallies to pull within one, 6-5. Bakersfield forward Mark Derlago scored first, as he deflected a pass from forward Spencer Carbery past Fresno goalie Kris Mayotte 2:17 into the third. Condors forward Todd Griffith followed Derlago's tally with one of his own at the 3:21 mark of the final stanza. Defenseman Scott Balan and forward Andrew Ianiero were credited with assists on Griffith's goal. Ianiero tied the game for the Condors with just 47 seconds left in the third period, as he chipped a rebound in from the crease after forward Brett Lutes shuffled the puck right in front of the net to the waiting Ianiero. Lutes and Konsorada got assists on the goal, and the game headed to overtime.

Neither team found a way to score in the extra session, sending the game to a shootout. Dustin and Konsorada beat Mayotte for Bakersfield scores, but Fresno scored three goals on six shots to win the shootout.

Notes: Only eight seconds separated the first two goals of the game, which came within the first two minutes of the opening frame. Konsorada had four points (1g, 3a) in the game, and was one of four Condors with multi-point performances. The Condors out-shot Fresno, 51-27.
