December 2, 2007 - ECHL (ECHL)
Idaho Steelheads News Release
Las Vegas, NV - Matt Craig and Mark Bomersback scored in the shootout and Kellen Briggs (22 saves) stopped all four shooters he faced to lift the Steelheads to a 2-1 victory over the Wranglers in front of 6,611 fans at Orleans Arena on Saturday night.
Both Craig, the Steelheads (7-6-6) first shooter, and Bomersback, their fourth shooter, beat Wranglers' goaltender Kevin Lalande (38 saves) five-hole off backhand opportunities. The win is the Steelheads (7-6-6) first on the road this season (1-5-2), their first in a shootout (1-2) and it's also their first one-goal triumph (1-3-6). Meanwhile, the Wranglers (15-2-1) saw their 11-game winning streak snapped, as the Steelheads avoided a sweep and their first three-game losing streak of the season.
After a scoreless opening stanza, rookie defenseman Chad Brownlee put the Steelheads in front 1-0 with a left point shot at the 2:56 mark of the second period.. Darrell Hay and Greg Rallo snagged the assists on the even-strength goal, which was the first of Brownlee's professional career.
At 15:14 the Wranglers evened the score on a power play marker by Ryan Donally. Aaron Power got the only assist, as he dumped the puck in wide of Briggs' net and the disc kicked off the end boards and then off Briggs before bouncing fee to Donally who swept it home.
Through 40 minutes the contest was tied at one while the Steelheads led in shots 25-14.
There was no scoring in the third frame or overtime and the final shots favored the Steelheads 40-23, with the 40 shots matching the club's highest total this year. The Steelheads went zero-for-seven on the power play and the Wranglers went one-for-four.
The Steelheads head back to Qwest Arena to embark on a nine-game home stand beginning on Wednesday, December 5 versus the Fresno Falcons. The puck drops at 7:10 p.m. MST. All the action can be heard live on 1350 AM, KTIK "The Ticket" or via the B2 Networks.
