Streak Stops with 3-1 Loss to Titans

North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays (24-17-1-1) fell to the Trenton Titans (15-19-3-3) 3-1 Friday night at the North Charleston Coliseum, snapping a nine-game winning streak.

Stingrays forward Greg Stewart broke open the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal 18:49 of the first period beating Titans goaltender Dave Caruso (W, 33 saves on 34 shots) on the breakaway.

The Titans responded at 9:43 of the second period when forward Steve Silva lifted a wrist shot over the glove of Stingrays netminder Philipp Grubauer (L, 19 saves on 21 shots) from the bottom of the right-wing circle. Forward Luke Pither grabbed the lone assist.

Titans defenseman Ray DiLauro made it 2-1 on the power play at 14:24 of the third frame from forwards Adam Presizniuk and Rob Bordson. Forward Ryan Hayes iced the contest with an empty-net goal at 19:14 from DiLauro. The Stingrays ended night 0-for-4 on the power play while the Titans went 1-for-4.

The Stingrays celebrate their annual Pack the House Night tomorrow, Saturday, January 28 against the Titans at 7:05 p.m. at the North Charleston Coliseum. All tickets are $5 and free parking! The Stingrays are also hosting a fundraiser for Zach Szala, who was bitten twice by a rattlesnake. All donations will be accepted at the Stingrays Customer Service table behind section 110 and by volunteers walking around the main concourse.
