Chicago Express News Release
Toledo, OH - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, came back from a two goal deficit, but fell 3-2 in regulation to the Toledo Walleye at the Huntington Center in Toledo on Friday night.
Toledo struck for the only goal of the game's opening period, as D Bryan Rufenach slammed Chicago D Scott Wietecha into the end boards, fed a pass out to RW Nick Oslund, and Osland hammered home a one-timer to give Toledo a 1-0 lead 4:00 into the first period. Chicago outshot Toledo 10-7 in the first period.
The Walleye increased their lead to 2-0 at 8:51 of the second frame. As F Mike Embach was coming out of the penalty box after a 5-on-3 for Toledo, C Harrison Reed collected a rebound and wristed a shot past G Peter Mannino, who had made three previous saves in quick succession. The Express found their scoring touch late in the period, when Embach snagged a rebound after a shot from D Brett Motherwell, sliding a shot past G Rob Nolan and cutting the Toledo lead to 2-1 with 3:48 left in the frame. Chicago evened up the scoring with 2:01 left in the frame, when LW Chad Painchaud struck for his 13th goal of the season, slamming home a rebound on the power play to lock the score at 2-2 heading into the final frame.
A late penalty to the Express set up the game's final goal. Reed moved a pass into the left corner, when C Adam Estoclet was able to step out of the corner and slide a shot just past Mannino with 4:02 left in the frame, lifting Toledo to the 3-2 win.
