Trenton Titans News Release

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Trenton Titans have had their share if ups and downs in the return season, but no night may have been finer than Friday as they handed the South Carolina Stingrays a 3-1 defeat before 2,878 fans in North Charleston Coliseum.

The Titans (15-19-3-3-36) snapped the Stingrays' (24-17-1-1-50) nine-game losing streak in recording back-to-back wins for the first time since Nov. 24-25, when the club won three straight.

In addition, the Titans recovered from Greg Stewart's short-handed goal with 1:11 remaining in the first period to dominate much of the game against the talented Stingrays and goalie Phil Grubauer.

Ray DiLauro, the Bensalem, Pa., native who scored the winning goal for the Titans earned the First Ace, while Titans goalie Dave Caruso, who made 33 saves and played perhaps his finest game of the season, was the Second Ace. Stewart got the Third Ace.

The Titans tied matters with 11:17 remaining in the second period, as Steve Silva notched his fourth, taking a pass from newcomer Luke Pither, whose speed made the play.

DiLauro's game-winner, with assists from Adam Presizniuk and Rob Bordson, was a laser from the left-circle area with 5:36 remaining in the game. Ryan Hayes notched his 12th, taking a pass from DiLauro and notching an empty-netter with 46 seconds remaining.

The Titans played excellent defense, killed off four South Carolina power plays and got stronger as the game went on.

Both the Titans and Stingrays will do it again at 7:05 Saturday evening in the Lowcountry.
