TONIGHT'S MATCHUP: After a thrilling overtime win on Wednesday night in Chicago, the Cyclones make their way into Kalamazoo in hopes of closing in on the division leading Wings. Since 2006, the Clones have won only six games at Wings Stadium and are still in search of their first road win against Kalamazoo this season. Cincinnati's all-time record against the Wings is 19-15-2-2.
SCOUTING THE WINGS: Nick Bootland's club remains atop the North Division standings with a record of 22-14-1-2, just eight points ahead of Cincinnati and four more games played. With Brandon Svendsen getting signed to an AHL contract earlier this week, Trent Daavettila is now the Wings active leader in scoring with an ECHL 10th best 38 points (8 goals, 30 assists). His "helper" totals are also good for third in the league. Rookie defenseman Mike Matczak is seventh among all rear guards in points with 23 points (8 goals, 15 assists) and third in goals. Riley Gill and Maxime Clermont have split time between the pipes for Kalamazoo. Gill is 14-9-1-2 this year with a 3.05 goals-against average while Clermont has accumulated a 7-5-0 mark and a 3.45 GAA.
About Wednesday Night in Chicago: Mike Pelech buried the game-winning goal at the 3:41 mark of overtime to give the Cyclones a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Express in front of 1,237 at Sears Centre. It was the seventh time this season that the Cyclones had rallied to win and the second time this month they erased a two-goal deficit to earn a victory.
He's Baaaack: Second-year netminder Brian Foster has been reassigned to Cincinnati after another stint at the higher levels. Foster spent some time in the NHL, playing the role of backup for the Florida Panthers followed by another visit to San Antonio. With the Cyclones this year, he has earned an impressive 8-1-0 record with a 2.55 GAA.
Keeping Things Close: This season, the Cyclones have found themselves in closely-contested battles almost nightly. More than 65 percent of their games have been decided by two goals or less.
