Asheville Tourists News Release

Asheville, NC-- It took ten innings, nine runs, and fourteen hits for the Greensboro Grasshoppers to end the Asheville Tourists 12-game winning streak, and they needed every bit of it. The Tourists fought back time and time again before coming up just short in the bottom of the tenth. Asheville overcame four separate deficits in the game; the last to force extra innings.

Michael Benjamin led from first base with the Tourists trailing 8-6 in the bottom of the ninth. The scoreboard read two outs and two strikes with Correlle Prime at the plate. Asheville's first-baseman doubled off the scoreboard in right to cut the Grasshoppers lead to one and Jordan Patterson followed with a single into right field, which forced extra innings.

Greensboro mounted their own two-out rally in the top of the tenth. JT Riddle singled with no one aboard and Austin Dean drew a four pitch walk. Carlos Lopez then grounded a two-strike pitch through the left side of the infield to score the eventual winning run in Riddle. Asheville put a runner at third in the bottom of the tenth with two outs, but Raimel Tapia flew out to Dean ending the game.

Both teams scored three runs in the first inning. Riddle had a Home Run for the "˜Hoppers while Benjamin and Prime each went deep for the T's. Felix Munoz's second inning two-run Homer gave the visitors a 5-3 lead, but Patterson's two-run double in the third knotted the score 5-5.

The two teams traded runs once again in the sixth. Brad Haynal hit a Home Run to left-centerfield but again Asheville tied up the score when Prime came home from third on a fielder's choice.

Brian Anderson recorded an RBI double in the seventh and Munoz added another Home Run in the ninth, but the Tourists late theatrics proved to be enough to draw even for the fourth time.

Asheville and Greensboro will face off for an encore on Friday night with the series finale scheduled for 7:05pm.
