Greenville Drive News Release
Lakewood, NJ - After getting blown out in the late innings on Wednesday afternoon, the Lakewood BlueClaws (12-21, 39-63) were the ones running away with a late lead on Thursday night, scoring six times in their final three times at bat to defeat the Greenville Drive (8-26, 42-61) 8-3.
The BlueClaws took a 2-1 lead to the bottom of the sixth, and three-run frames in the sixth and seventh allowed them to pull away. A two-run single by Mitch Walding extended the lead to 4-1 and chased Drive starter Myles Smith (3-7) from the game. Zach Green then greeted Jacob Dahlstrand with a sacrifice fly for another run.
Following back-to-back singles with one out by Carlos Tocci and Andrew Pullin in the seventh, Dylan Cozens smacked a two-run triple to right field, and Green added an RBI double for good measure.
The Drive couldn't get much going against Lakewood starter Jon Prosinski (4-3), as he allowed one unearned run and five hits in six innings with five strikeouts. He was staked to a 2-0 lead in the second after an RBI single by Willians Astudillo and a wild pitch.
A Jake Romanski RBI groundout in the sixth plated Tim Roberson, who singled, for the first Drive run of the game, but Prosinski worked around that and an error to escape the frame with no further damage.
The Drive tagged Delvi Francisco for a pair of runs in the ninth thanks to Zach Kapstein's RBI double and Aneudis Peralta's RBI single, but he finished the frame and recorded his first save of the season.
Cozens and Green each collected two hits and two RBIs for Lakewood, and Pullin and Tocci joined them with two-hit nights. Greenville received two hits apiece from Kapstein and Cole Sturgeon.
The rubber game of the series begins at 7:05 on Friday night in Lakewood. LH Trey Ball (1-7, 6.06) starts on the mound for the Drive, and RH Yacksel Rios (3-0, 3.45) takes the ball for the BlueClaws.
