Straka Activated By Kings; Zizka Assigned To Manchester

MANCHESTER, NH – The Los Angeles Kings, the NHL affiliate of the Manchester Monarchs, on Thursday activated forward Martin Straka from the injured reserve list and assigned defenseman Tomas Zizka to the Monarchs. Straka, 31, underwent arthroscopic surgery on January 22 to repair damaged cartilage to both knees. He has missed the last 23 Kings' games after suffering an injury to his left knee on January 10. Acquired from the Pittsburgh Penguins on November 30, the 5-foot-9, 178-pounder from Plzen, Czech Republic, has played in 40 games with the Kings and Penguins this season, recording 23 points (10-13=23) and 20 penalty minutes. Straka, who was placed on the injured list on January 12 (retroactive to January 11), has 11 points (6-5=11) and four penalty minutes in 18 games as a King. He is expected to be in the line-up for Thursday's Kings-Minnesota Wild game at STAPLES Center (10:30 p.m. EST).

Zizka, 24, has appeared in 15 games with the Kings this season, recording personal-bests in goals (two, including his first career NHL goal on February 15), points (five) and penalty minutes (12). In addition, the 6-foot-1, 213-pound native of Sternberk, Czech Republic, has participated in 39 games with the Monarchs this season, recording 16 points (3-13=16) and 27 penalty minutes. Zizka is expected to be in the line-up when the Monarchs meet the Lowell Lock Monsters on Friday. In addition, Kings' defenseman Brad Norton and forward Jon Sim have been removed from the Kings roster. Both were claimed off waivers on Thursday. The Washington Capitals claimed Norton and the Pittsburgh Penguins claimed Sim.

Defenseman Nathan Dempsey, who was acquired on Tuesday from the Chicago Blackhawks, is expected to make his Kings debut against the Wild on Thursday.

The Monarchs are in Lowell to face the Lock Monsters on Friday, March 5 at 7:00 p.m. After that, their scheduled to face the Portland Pirates at the Cumberland County Civic Center on Saturday, March 6 at 2:05 p.m. The Monarchs return home on Wednesday, March 10 to host the Springfield Falcons at 7:05 p.m. at the Verizon Wireless Arena.
