
Stormers Squeak Past Ducks in Opener

(Lancaster, Penn., July 5, 2012) - The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-0 on Wednesday night in the first game of a four-game series.
Lancaster struck for the game's first run in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly to center from Terry Tiffee off Ducks starter Jason Monti. Another run in the second on Emerson Frostad's RBI double extended the lead to two.
Both teams traded scoreless innings until the sixth when Jamie Pedroza connected for a run-scoring single to round out the scoring.
Barnstormers starter J.D. Durbin (4-6) earned the win, going the distance for a complete game shutout. The righty allowed just six hits and two walks while striking out five. Monti (5-4) was the hard-luck loser, yielding three runs on eight hits with six strikeouts in six innings.
Dan Lyons and James McOwen led the Flock with two hits apiece.
The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their four-game set on Friday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m., at Clipper Magazine Stadium. Long Island returns home on Thursday, July 16 as they host the Somerset Patriots in the opener of a four-game set. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05.
