
'Fish Sign Former Major Leaguer Shea Hillenbrand

(Bridgeport, Conn. - July 5, 2012 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of infielder Shea Hillenbrand. Hillenbrand joins the Bluefish for his second season in the Atlantic League and 14th of professional baseball. The former Major League last played professionally in 2008 as a member of the York Revolution. In 36 games for York, he batted .340 with 11 extra-base hits, 25 RBI, and 22 runs scored.
"Shea brings a tremendous amount of experience to the ballclub both on and off the field," says Bluefish manager Willie Upshaw. "He's a true big league hitter that will provide a positive impact on our lineup going forward."
The 36-year-old is a seven-year big league veteran, having played for the Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, and Los Angeles Dodgers. He made his Major League debut with the Red Sox in 2001 and spent three years with Boston before being traded to the Diamondbacks for reliever Byung-Hyun Kim. The slugger last appeared in "ËThe Show' with the Dodgers in 2007. Hillenbrand's best season in the Majors came in 2002 with the BoSox, when he batted .293 with 18 home runs and 83 RBI, while setting career-highs with 94 runs scored and 43 doubles. In 943 career Major League games, he owns a .284 batting average with 108 home runs, 202 doubles, 490 RBI, and 463 runs scored. Shea was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 10th round of the 1996 amateur draft.
In a corresponding roster move, the Bluefish have placed pitcher Rommie Lewis on the Inactive List.
