
Bridgeport Cannot Rally from Early Deficit

(Sugar Land, TX) - The Bridgeport Bluefish (29-38) allowed five runs in the first two innings of the contest and were unable to overcome the deficit as the Sugar Land Skeeters (28-39) defeated the road team by a score of 6-4 from Constellation Field on Thursday. Bridgeport is now 3-3 against Sugar Land this season.
Bridgeport made a valiant effort to come back from an early deficit. Kennard Jones and Eddie Rogers drove in runners in the fifth while Prentice Redman stroked a two-run double to right in the seventh; but the Bluefish could not get any closer. Jones, Rogers, and Luis Rodriguez finished with two hit nights.
In the first inning, Sugar Land scored three runs and followed up with a two spot in the second frame and an insurance runner in the seventh. The Skeeters stole four bases in the opening inning and two of them came from Miguel Nagron. The leadoff hitter finished with two hits on Thursday. Matt Hagen picked up a two hits and drove in a run. Bubba Bell, Steve Moss, Dominic Ramos, and Jason Lane brought home one run each. Lane picked up two hits a day after he started for Sugar Land.
Bridgeport starter, Jonah Bayliss (2-5) settled down after his struggle in the first couple of innings; but the righthander suffered the loss as Bayliss allowed five runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks while fanning one. Matt Pike and Julio DePaula came out of the bullpen. The tandem completed the last three frames while surrendering one run on three hits and one walk.
Sugar Land hurler, Michael Nix (2-7), picked up the victory as the righthanded starter completed five innings and gave up two runs on five hits and three walks while fanning three Bridgeport batters. Ryan McKeller fired three innings of two run, four hit and three strikeout baseball out of the bullpen while Gary Majeski collected his ninth save by retiring the Bluefish in order in the final inning.
Bridgeport continues a series against Sugar Land on Friday. First pitch from Constellation Field is slated for 8:05 PM. Bridgeport will send lefthanded starter, Gilbert De La Vara (3-5, 4.10 ERA), to the hill as he is opposed by Sugar Land righthanded hurler, Pedro Liriano (3-3, 2.59 ERA). The pre-game show airs twenty minutes before each first pitch.
