Storm Top Hawks 4-1

January 8, 2022 - United States Hockey League (USHL)
Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

The Waterloo Black Hawks slowed the Western Conference-leading Tri-City Storm early on Saturday, but the visitors swung in front and eventually went on to a 4-1 result at Young Arena.

Hawks goaltender Jack Williams was peppered with 36 shots, while Waterloo was limited to 22, only one of which eluded Arsenii Sergeev.

Waterloo recorded that goal 7:12 into the game. Moments after a successful penalty kill, Patrick Geary nudged the Hawks in front off a setup by Jake Schneider.

The lead stood for more than a full period before a Tri-City faceoff win in the Hawks' zone created the opportunity for Mitchell Miller to tie it at 9:54 of the second. On the next shift, the Storm pulled into the lead when Lleyton Roed capitalized in transition at 10:25.

Tri-City took a two-goal lead for the first time at 10:39 of the third; Drew Montgomery stretched the margin by tipping in a shot from Gavin Brindley. Brindley then capped the scoring with an empty net goal in the final minute after the Storm denied a late Waterloo power play.

The Hawks are on the road for games next weekend against the Des Moines Buccaneers and the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
