Storm Set for Showdown with Black Hawks

WATERLOO, IA - The Tri-City Storm is set for a showdown against the Waterloo Black Hawks tonight at Young Arena following last night's 6-1 road victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers. Last night, Victor Czerneckianair netted two powerplay goals and was named the 1st Star of the Game. Graham Gamache, Vinny Borgesi, and Mitchell Miller also netted goals for the Storm in the game. Puck drop for tonight's road game is scheduled for 6:05pm CT.

Tri-City (21-5-1-0) visits Young Arena for the first time this season following wins against the Black Hawks at the Viaero Center on October 8th, November 12th, and November 13th. Tri-City has outscored Waterloo by a combined margin of 17-5. Tonight's game is the fourth game in this year's six-game season series between the Storm and the Black Hawks. Following Saturday night's battle, Tri-City will return to Young Arena for the final two games of the season series on March 18th and March 19th. Scoring leaders for the Storm following last night's 6-1 road victory over Des Moines include Cole O'Hara (13), Lleyton Roed (12), Jeremy Wilmer (11), Mitchell Miller (11), Gavin Brindley (10), and Ilya Nikolaev (8). The Storm's powerplay is ranked third in the league (26.6%) entering tonight's game. The penalty kill is also third in the league this season with a success rate of (86.4%). Tri-City holds a 12-7-3-0 record against Waterloo in head-to-head matchups over the last five years. The Storm edged the Black Hawks in last year's six-game season series with a final record of 3-2-1-0. Tri-City is 4-5-1-0 in the last five seasons in games played at Young Arena. Following tonight's road game against Waterloo, Tri-City returns home to the Viaero Center for back-to-back home games next weekend against the Fargo Force. The Storm will complete a three-game weekend with a road game on Sunday afternoon against the Omaha Lancers.

Waterloo (14-12-1-1) is set to protect home ice against Tri-City tonight following a 4-1 road victory Friday night over the Sioux Falls Stampede. Tyler Kostelecky, Tucker Ness, John Waldron, and Conner Schneider scored goals for the Black Hawks in the win. Jack Williams stopped 19 of Sioux Falls' 20 shots on net to record the victory for Waterloo. Williams is now 9-7-0-1 on the season following last night's win. Waterloo improved to 8-0-0-1 when leading after the 1st period and 11-0-0-0 when leading after the 2nd period in Friday's road win over Sioux Falls. Scoring leaders for the Black Hawks entering tonight's home game against Tri-City include Garrett Schifsky (13), Tyler Kostelecky (9), Michael LaStarza (8), and John Waldron (8). Waterloo's powerplay is ranked 14th in the USHL entering tonight's game (15.0%). Waterloo has netted 16 powerplay goals on 107 powerplay opportunities this season. The Black Hawks penalty kill is second-best in the USHL this year (87.6%). Following tonight's home game against Tri-City, Waterloo will return to action next weekend with back-to-back road matchups against the Des Moines Buccaneers and the Dubuque Fighting Saints.
