SIOUX CITY, Iowa - The Lincoln Stars (14-10-1-1) came inches away from forcing overtime, but lost 4-3 against the Sioux City Musketeers (15-9-3-1) on Friday night at Tyson Events Center.

Jo Lemay drew first blood for Lincoln at 5:22, scoring his fifth goal of the season after he directed a backhander over the right shoulder of Alex Tracy.

Lemay was fed the puck at the left wing by Griffin Jurecki and spun from the hash-marks to the slot before firing the shot on. Cameron Whitehead picked up a secondary assist on the goal.

Owen McLaughlin answered back under five minutes later, tying the game despite barreling into Whitehead after his initial shot was stopped. The officials called it no goal on the ice but quickly reversed the call after a brief discussion. The play was unable to be reviewed due to the USHL's rule pertaining to goaltender interference.

The Stars put that behind them, regaining the lead at 12:30 thanks to Jurecki's seventh goal in 2021-22. Lemay and Lucas Wahlin secured the helpers.

Griffin Ludtke evened up at the game at two goals apiece at 18:31 and Dylan James beat the buzzer with a power-play goal. Lincoln fell behind 3-2 after one period of play. The Stars outshot Sioux City 10-7.

Following a five-goal first period, neither team could strike in the second stanza. Lincoln had a pair of power plays following an empty first in that regard, but couldn't finish.

The next goal came from former Lincoln draft pick Ben Steeves, who scored his 12th goal of the season 13:34 into the third on the man-advantage.

Luke Johnson made it interesting with 29 seconds left in regulation, tipping a puck past Tracy following a mad scramble in the crease on Lincoln's 6-on-5 attack. Johnson's eighth goal of the season was assisted by Wahlin and Dalton Norris.

Lemay hit the crossbar on the next shift, but the Stars' comeback bid came up short. Whitehead stopped 26 shots while Tracy turned aside 23.

Lincoln was 0-for-4 on the power play and allowed two PPGs against on four opportunities.

The Stars take on the Sioux Falls Stampede Saturday night at the Ice Box. Puck drop is at 7:05 p.m.!
