Storm Looks to Rebound against Gamblers

Kearney, Neb. - The Tri-City Storm (2-2-0-1, 5 pts.) completes a four-game homestand and plays the second game of a back-to-back against the Green Bay Gamblers (2-2-0-0, 4 pts.).

Last night, the Storm's power play came alive for its first two man-up goals of the season. Charlie Kelleher and Joey Matthews tallied on the man up, but Green Bay scored three in the third and won, 4-2.

This is the second of three games this weekend for the Storm; Tri-City matches Omaha at Ralston Arena this Sunday at 5:05 p.m.

Power play is alive and the kill is clicking After starting the season without a man-up goal in its first four games, the Storm went 2-for-3 on the power play in Thursday's loss to Green Bay.

Charlie Kelleher provided the initial jolt with a man up goal five minutes into the game. Next, Joey Matthews gave the Storm a one-goal edge midway through the second.

On the opposite end, the Storm has killed off 13 of 14 opponent power plays. The Storm yielded a goal last night to Green Bay, its first of the five games.

Play the "Bongo" Wyatt Bongiovanni, nicknamed "Bongo", has one goal and a team-best four points through the first five games. Tied with Alex Limoges for a Storm-high three assists, Bongiovanni has points in four of the Storm's five games.

Acquired by the Storm in August from Des Moines, the second-year player earned a primary helper on the Storm's power-play tally in the second on Friday.

The 17-year-old from Birmingham, Michigan scored three goals and 14 points last season with the Buccaneers.

First day loss After winning its first two games of back-to-back contests to begin the season, the Storm's loss to Green Bay on Thursday halted the mini-streak.

Since the 2016 calendar year began, Tri-City is 12-3-3-0 on the first game of back-to-backs. Last season, the Storm went 10-2-3-0 after New Year's Day and finished 2015-2016 with a 16-6-4-2 record. The impressive record included a seven-game win streak midway through last season.

On the opposite end, Tri-City has dropped its first two games on Saturdays (0-1-0-1), the second game of a back-to-back. Last season, the Storm was 10-9-6-4 on the second game of a back-to-back.

Last Time Out The Tri-City Storm's power play struck twice, but the Green Bay Gamblers scored three in the third to slip by the Storm, 4-2, Thursday at the Viaero Center.

Charlie Kelleher and Joey Matthews scored the first two power-play goals for the Storm. Tri-City led, 2-1, entering the third before Casey Mittelstadt scored twice in the third for Green Bay. Mittelstadt potted the game-winning tally with about seven minutes left.

Josh Kosack scored the empty-net goal to stop the Storm's comeback attempt. The first-year Gambler also scored twice

In cage, Dayton Rasmussen made 27 saves. The Storm outshot the Gamblers, 35-31, but David Hrenak earned his first USHL win with 33 stops.

On Deck The Storm travels to play the Omaha Lancers this Sunday, October 9 at 5:05 p.m. at Ralston Arena. It's the first of eight meetings between the clubs. Also on the horizon is the first Storm Fights Cancer Weekend!

The Storm is a week away from its Storm Fight Cancer Weekend October 13-15, featuring a pair of home games. On Thursday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m., Tri-City invites all fans to "Paint the Ice" and remember those affected by cancer. The Storm will wear specialty jerseys and play on the painted ice against Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. for Color Out Cancer Night presented by Midway Auto Dealerships.

To continue the weekend theme, the Storm and Kearney Concrete team up for Concrete Cares Night on Saturday, October 15 at 7:05 p.m. Tri-City will play Lincoln on the painted ice and the Storm will wear new and different specialty jerseys.
