Lincoln Stars News Release
Lincoln, Neb. - The Lincoln Stars established an early lead and pressured the Sioux City Musketeers for 60 minutes as they held on for 1-0 win on Friday in the Ice Box.
The win came on the heels of a 5-2 loss to the Waterloo Black Hawks on Thursday night and bumped the Stars to 3-2-0 this season.
The Stars opened the scoring early in the game with a power play goal at 3:10 of the first period. Dominick Mersch put the Stars on the board after tapping a cross-crease feed from Brandon Schultz behind Musketeers goalie Matiss Kivlenieks. Eero Terî=A4vî=A4inen earned the secondary assist.
Lincoln continued to hold strong in the second despite a Musketeer power play and a flurry of chances toward the end of the period. Stars goalie Josef Korenar had made 20 saves by the second intermission - he finished with 27.
The Stars went 1/2 on the power play and 3/3 on the penalty kill.
Lincoln returns to action Saturday, Oct. 8 against the Waterloo Black Hawks in Young Arena. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m.
