Hot Storm Power Play Falls to Green Bay, 5-3

Kearney, Neb. - Monte Graham scored two power-play goals, but the Green Bay Gamblers struck for five straight tallies and defeated the Tri-City Storm, 5-3, Friday at the Viaero Center.

Graham, an 18-year-old returning player, matched his goal total (3) from last season and is tied for the team lead with five points. Alex Limoges also tallied for Tri-City (2-3-0-1, 5 pts.) midway through the third to end Green Bay's five-goal run. Philip Alftberg and Charlie Kelleher each finished with two assists.

The Storm has scored four power-play goals (4-for-6) in the last two games.

Goaltender David Tomeo replaced Dayton Rasmussen midway through the third period. Rasmussen made 21 saves on 26 shots and Tomeo made two stops in relief. Meanwhile, Green Bay's Maxim Zhukov stopped 15 shots and earned his second USHL win.

Tri-City has a quick turnaround and plays at Omaha on Sunday, October 9 at 5:05 p.m. The game can be heard on The Breeze 94.5 FM .

The Storm started off the game with a pair of power-play goals to take a 2-0 edge. First, Linus Weissbach dished to the left circle for Kelleher, who shot it net front. On its way in, Monte Graham redirected it to the left pocket at 9:12.

Graham was at it again about six minutes later. With 5:45 left in the first, a traffic shot from Alftberg was stuffed home by Graham. Paul Washe and Alftberg took home the assists.

The first six goals of the game were on the power play, including the next four by Green Bay. The Gamblers scored with 3:19 left in the first on a Chris Grando tally. Jared Spooner scored the next two goals for Green Bay on the man up. Dante Palecco made it 4-2 at 5:12 of the third. Five minutes later, Brock Caufield scored at even strength for his first USHL goal.

Alex Limoges tallied with 9:27 left in the third from Kelleher and Alftberg. The second-year forward Limoges whacked it top shelf from the right circle. Limoges, the Storm's leading returning scorer, has one goal and four points this season.

Next Thursday, the Tri-City kicks off its Storm Fights Cancer Weekend, featuring a pair of home games. On Thursday, October 13 from 5-9 p.m., Tri-City invites all fans to "Paint the Ice" and remember those affected by cancer. The Storm will wear specialty jerseys and play on the painted ice against Cedar Rapids on Friday, October 14 at 7:05 p.m. for Color Out Cancer Night presented by Midway Auto Dealerships.

To continue the weekend theme, the Storm and Kearney Concrete team up for Concrete Cares Night on Saturday, October 15 at 7:05 p.m. Tri-City will play Lincoln on the painted ice and the Storm will wear new and different specialty jerseys.
