Storm Hires New Bench Boss

Guelph Storm General Manager Mike Kelly announced today that Jarrod Skalde has been hired as the team's Head Coach, the 16th in the club's history.Skalde, 44, has coached across seven professional leagues with his most recent stint as the Head Coach of the AHL's Norfolk Admirals (top affiliate for the Tampa Bay Lightning). Prior to being promoted to the Admirals Head Coaching position, he was an assistant under Trent Yawney. Skalde was named the ECHL Coach of the Year in 2013 with the Cincinnati Cyclones and won the Turner Cup with the Orlando Solar Bears in 2001.

Before joining the coaching ranks, Skalde played 88 games in the NHL. Originally drafted in the first round of the OHL Priority Selection by the Oshawa Generals, the Niagara Falls native won the Memorial Cup with the team in 1990. Throughout his playing career, he was the captain of five different teams.

Skalde's first game as the Storm's new bench boss will be against the Erie Otters on December 29th.
