Omaha Storm Chasers News Release
OMAHA, Neb. - The Omaha Storm Chasers and the Allergy, Asthma & Immunology PC excitedly announce that Werner Park will be bringing awareness to those afflicted with peanut allergies with Peanut Free Night on August 1. The Storm Chasers 7:05 game against the Reno Aces will be free of anything peanut related, including sunflower seeds, peanuts and tree nuts.
"Peanuts at a ballgame is a ritual that most of us partake in without even batting an eyelash," said the Omaha Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro. "However, to those with peanut allergies, eating nuts at a game is not an option. With Peanut Free Night, we hope to bring awareness about the struggle faced by those with peanut and food allergies."
To kick off Peanut Free Night, Max Roseland, a seven-year-old from Carter Lake, Iowa, will throw out the game's first pitch. Roseland survived a very rare delayed allergic reaction to peanuts after he unknowingly took a bite of a classmate's peanut butter granola bar.
In order to prepare for Peanut Free Night, Werner Park will be cleaned to remove every remnant of peanuts from the park to provide those with peanut allergies a fun and worry-free evening at the ballpark.
Approximately three million Americans suffer from peanut allergies, with as many as one-third of peanut-sensitive people having severe near-fatal or fatal reactions due to anaphylactic shock from exposure to peanuts. Reported cases of food allergies, including reactions related to peanut exposure, are on the rise with a National Center for Health Statistics study showing an 18% increase in reactions among children 18 years old or younger from 1997 to 2007.
To attend Peanut Free Night on August 1 or any other event at Werner Park, please call the Werner Park Ticket Office at (402) 738-5100 or visit www.omahastormchasers.com.
