SALT LAKE CITY - Daric Barton homered and drove in three runs for Sacramento, but the River Cats were done in by a 10-run second inning Tuesday night, dropping the series opener to the Salt Lake Bees at Spring Mobile Ballpark, 17-7.

The River Cats jumped out to an early lead, playing four runs in the top of the second to go ahead 4-0. In the second, Adam Rosales got the Cats on the board with an RBI double before Barton's three-run blast extended Sacramento's lead, but that would be the last time the River Cats held the advantage.

The Bees came roaring back in the home half of the frame, sending 13 men to the plate and scoring 10 runs. The Bees hit three home runs in the inning, and coasted to the series-opening win over Sacramento.

Bruce Billings (6-4) suffered the defeat for the River Cats, allowing six earned runs in 1.1 innings of work. Rich Thompson shined out of the Cats bullpen, striking out four in 2.1 scoreless innings of relief.

Salt Lake starter Trevor Bell allowed six runs as well, but did not figure in the decision. Andrew Taylor was credited with the win in relief, improving to 1-0 on the season.

Grant Green and Stephen Parker each recorded a pair of hits for Sacramento, while Rosales hit his 19th double of the season and drove in three runs on the night.

Wednesday night, the River Cats are scheduled to send RHP Brad Peacock (7-7, 6.63 ERA) to the mound against Bees LHP Greg Smith (5-7, 4.00 ERA) in the second game of this four-game series. First pitch from Spring Mobile Ballpark is set for 6:05 p.m. PT.

The River Cats return to Raley Field on Wednesday, August 1 at 7:05 p.m. to open an eight-game homestand against the Memphis Redbirds and Nashville Sounds, which will kick off Tennessee Week presented by Jack Daniel's.
