Iowa Cubs News Release
Oklahoma City, OK - The Oklahoma City RedHawks (59-44) had their whole lineup contributing in a 15-9 victory over the Iowa Cubs (41-63) at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark tonight. The Cubs have now lost five straight on this road trip and six in a row overall, matching their longest losing streak of the season. This is the third time the Cubs have lost six in a row this year.
Jimmy Paredes ignited the RedHawks' offense with a leadoff homer off Cubs' starter Rodrigo Lopez in the bottom of the first inning. Oklahoma City added another run in the second inning on a squeeze bunt by pitcher Armando Galarraga and three more runs in the third to extend their lead to 5-0.
Galarraga came out of the game after three scoreless innings and the Cubs stormed back with six runs in the top of the fourth against Aneury Rodriguez to take the lead. Welington Castillo led off with a single, scored the first run, and then singled again later in the inning to drive in the last run. In the middle, Alfredo Amezaga and Josh Vitters each had two-run singles.
The RedHawks came back with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to knock Lopez out of the game. Lopez walked Mike Hessman with the bases loaded to force in the first run that tied the score at six. Ryan Rowland-Smith allowed a two-run single to Brett Wallace that put the RedHawks back on top at 8-6.
The Cubs came back and tied the game again when Brett Jackson connected on a two-run homer in the top of the sixth inning off Sergio Perez. Former I-Cub Brad Snyder led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homer to put the RedHawks back on top at 9-8. With two on and one out, Jay Jackson replaced Rowland-Smith and allowed a three-run homer to Matt Dominguez that extended the RedHawks' lead to 12-8.
The RedHawks scored their final three runs against Marcus Hatley in the bottom of the seventh. Hatley, making his triple-A debut, walked Wallace with the bases loaded and was tagged for a two-run double by Dominguez. Dominguez finished with six RBI.
The Cubs scored their final run in the top of the ninth off Adalberto Flores. Castillo led off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Diory Hernandez.
There were 10 different RedHawks with a hit in the game and six with multi-hit games. Snyder and Hessman each scored three runs and Wallace finished with four RBI. Perez (3-2) was credited with the win and Rowland-Smith (2-3) was charged with the loss.
