Reno Aces News Release
RENO, Nev.-Cole Gillespie fell a triple shy of the cycle and drove in four runs Tuesday night, helping lift the Reno Aces to a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox in the series opener at Aces Ballpark.
The victory pushes Reno's Pacific North Division lead to 6.5 games over second-place Colorado Springs.
Reno jumped ahead early, scoring five times over the game's first three innings. That would prove to be enough for starter Tyler Skaggs and the Aces bullpen. The Sky Sox clawed back with four runs in the sixth inning, but they would get no closer.
Skaggs (3-1) picked-up the win, scattering three runs-one earned-on six hits over 5.2 innings of work. Matt Gorgen, Bryan Shaw and Jensen Lewis combined to hold Colorado Springs to just on unearned run over the next 2.1 frames before Jonathan Albaladejo slammed the door in the ninth for his 18th save.
The loss fell to Sky Sox starter Ricky Brooks (0-1), who surrendered five runs through 3.2 innings.
At the dish for Reno, Gillespie and Mike Jacobs collected three hits apiece. Josh Bell and A.J. Pollock added two-hit efforts for Reno.
The series continues Wednesday night at Aces Ballpark. RHP Charles Brewer (5-6, 5.42 ERA) gets the nod for Reno, while the Sky Sox will counter with RHP Rob Scahill (8-9, 5.30 ERA). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. PT, and it'll be another Aces WINSday, with a free ballpark soda on the line.
Tickets are on-sale now at RenoAces.com, by calling (775) 334-7000 or by visiting the Aces Ballpark Ticket Office.
