Windsor Spitfires News Release

(Guelph, ON) - Zac Leslie's goal at 3:01 of overtime capped an improbable 5-4 Storm win over the Spitfires in Family Day matinee action at Sleeman Centre on Monday.

With the Spits leading 4-3 and the Guelph (31-20-2-2) net empty, the Storm took advantage of a late Windsor (22-29-2-1) icing infraction and won the subsequent draw before Givani Smith (6) tied the game with just 55 seconds to play in regulation.

Trailing 2-0 after 20 minutes, Guelph native Patrick Sanvido scored his first goal of the season in the opening minute of the second period to get the Spitfires back in it. Slater Doggett (18) pulled the visitors even with just 69 seconds to play in the middle frame.

Anthony Stefano (11) and Lucas Venuto (17) gave the Spits leads of 3-2 and 4-3 in the third period, part of an offensive attack that registered 50 shots on Storm netminder Justin Nichols.

Tyler Bertuzzi (1G, 3A) and Pius Suter (1G, 2A) led the way offensively for Guelph.

Alex Fotinos (10 saves) started for the third straight game, but was forced to leave after giving up his second goal of the first period due to an equipment issue. Brendan Johnston made 21 saves the rest of the way.

The Spitfires moved within two points of Saginaw for the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference in the loss. They'll have a chance to move into a tie with the Spirit Wednesday night, as they host the Plymouth Whalers for the final time on Mickey Renaud Night.
