Oshawa Generals News Release

It was a touchdown for the Generals today as the top ranked team in the CHL defeated the Sudbury Wolves 7-0 in an afternoon matchup. Jeremy Brodeur posted his third shutout of the season and the Generals earned their 43rd win as a team.

What started off as a slow game certainly changed speed by the end of the game. The opening period of the game saw six penalties, the first called at 2:36 when Carlisle was sent to the box for hooking. Less than 10 seconds later, Wolves goaltender, Samuel Tanguay was called for delay of game and it was a four on four and no goals were scored. At 6:43, Desrochers was was called for boarding and the Generals were on their first power play of the game, but unfortunately couldn't make anything of the opportunity. The next penalty was given to Dakaota Mermis for hooking and a few minutes later, Capobianco sat for slashing. Finally, Hunter Smith sat for two on a check to the head call after a Sudbury player tried to fight him. Ending the period on a high note, Michael Dal Colle scored the first goal of the game, assisted by Stephen Desrocher. The Generals dominated shots on goal during the period, outshooting the Wolves 14-5.

The second period didn't feature much action, aside from two Generals goals and one Generals penalty. Hunter Smith was called for hooking at 1:34 and as soon as his penalty expired, he hopped back onto the ice at the perfect time. Smith received a pass and shot at the net, Wallace was able to tip the puck in, giving the Generals a 2-0 lead early in the second. Assists were from Smith and Latour. Wallace decided to keep things going at 9:09 when he scored his second goal of the game, assisted by Chris Carlisle. The second period wrapped up with the Generals outshooting the Wolves 8-6 and enjoying a 3-0 lead.

Many Generals players had a chance to shine in the third period, especially Dal Colle who scored a beautiful breakaway, slow motion goal. With the Wolves on a power play, Dal Colle managed to put his score his second goal of the game and increase the Generals lead to 4-0. At 12:52, Anthony Cirelli scored his 10th goal of the season, assisted by Matt Mistele and Sonny Hertzberg. Less than two minutes later, Kenny Huether scored a beauty, assisted by Joe Manchurek and Dakota Mermis. Manchurek scored his second point of the game less than 20 seconds later, when he scored unassisted to give the Generals a 7-0 lead over the Wolves. The Generals took 24 shots on goal in the third and the Wolves managed six shots on goal. Michael Dal Colle was awarded first star of the game after scoring two goals and one assist, Wallace was given second star for his two goals, and Brodeur took home third star after earning his third shutout in 12 games played.

Despite having Cole Cassels and Michael McCarron out of the line-up tonight, the Generals once again displayed their depth and skill as a team. Cassels and McCarron were both suspended for two games following a fight at Friday night's game in Kingston. Both players will be back on the ice at our next home game. Our next home game takes place this Saturday, Feb. 21 when the Generals take on the Kingston Frontenacs in our third annual Pucks 4 Heart game. This special game supports the Heart & Stroke Foundation and there are still great seats available! To purchase tickets, click here, visit the GM Centre Box Office, or call 1-877-346-8811.
