Kitchener Rangers News Release

Connor Bunnaman and Nick Magyar scored for the Kitchener Rangers in a 6-2 loss to the Belleville Bulls on Monday afternoon.

The Bulls opened the scoring with eight seconds remaining in the first period. Defenceman Jordan Subban collected pass from Michael Cramarossa in front of the Rangers net and lifted a shot over starter Jake Paterson. The fourth year rearguard has a career-high 22 goals on the season.

Belleville led shots on goal 11-6 after 20 minutes.

Matt Luff extended the Bulls lead to two goals less than seven minutes into the middle frame, taking advantage of a power play opportunity. The rookie winger carried the puck behind the Rangers net, tucking the wraparound shot behind Paterson's right skate. Brandon Saigeon earned the lone assist on the goal, Luff's eighth of the season.

The Bulls added a second power play marker before the halfway marker. Stephen Harper jammed a shot past Paterson to pick up his 15th of the season, with assists from David Tomasek and Niki Petti.

Harper's tally sparked a Rangers goaltending change as Dawson Carty was set to the crease in relief of Paterson.

Rookie Connor Bunnaman put Kitchener on the board at the 12:23 mark of the second period. Bulls tender Charlie Graham kicked away Darby Llewellyn's shot on goal, but the Guelph, ON native pounced on the rebound and fired it over the goal line. His seventh of the year was also assisted by Nick Magyar. With his helper, Llewellyn has points in five straight games (3G/6A).

Belleville responded quickly, restoring their three goal lead 75 seconds later. Captain Brett Welychka lifted a shot over Carty's right shoulder to record his 11th of the season. Adam Laishream and former Erie Otters defenceman Jesse Saban picked up helpers on the play.

Tomasek put the Bulls ahead 5-1 with less than a minute to play in the middle frame. The import forward picked up the puck in his own zone and rushed it the length of the ice, snapping a shot just under the crossbar for his 10th of the season.

Belleville out-shot Kitchener 19-8 in the second period.

A power play goal from sophomore Nick Magyar cut into the Rangers' deficit at the 6:23 mark of the final period of play. The Colorado Avalanche prospect deflected Thomas Welsh's point shot over Graham for his 15th of the season.

Welychka recorded his second of the game with less than four minutes to play, a short-handed marker that put the Bulls up 6-2. Harper jarred the puck loose in his own zone, and Welychka jumped on it, firing a hard shot past Carty's blocker.

Belleville led shots on goal 15-12 in the third and 45-26 overall.

The teams split the season series with one win apiece.
