Saginaw Start Busy Week With Loss in London

The Saginaw Spirit travelled to the Budweiser Gardens on Monday afternoon to take on the London Knights for the Spirit's first of four road games this week. The Saginaw Spirit fell to the London Knights 4-1, with the lone goal for the Spirit coming from Tye Felhaber.

The London Knights struck first towards the later end of the period on a goal by Mitch Marner. The first tally of the afternoon came at the 16:43 mark and put the Knights ahead of the Spirit by one. Max Domi and Christian Dvorak were credited with assists on the play. Saginaw's starting goaltender Evan Cormier saw 10 shots on goal during the first period and London's Michael Giugovaz stopped 8 of the Spirit's shot on net.

The London Knights cushioned their lead over the Spirit after Chris Martenet netted the second goal for the Knights during the second period. The goal came towards the midway part of the period when Chandler Yakimowicz and Joel Wigle assisted Martenet, who made it a 2-0 game in favor of the Knights at the 12:57 mark. Shots on goal during the second period favored London 16-10.

Aaron Berisha got the third period scoring going for London at the 7:18 mark, pulling ahead of the Spirit 3-0. Aiden Jamieson and Josh Sterk assisted the play. Saginaw eventually tallied their first goal of the game at 9:55 on the power play, after Tye Felhaber put home his 15th goal of the season with the help of Jesse Barwell. The Knights netted one more goal before the end of the period off the stick of Matt Rupert at 12:01 on the power play, which gave way to a 4-1 win over the Saginaw Spirit. Mitch Marner and Max Domi took the assists on the play. Final shots on goal read London Knights 42, Saginaw Spirit 32.

The Saginaw Spirit will see three more road games before returning to the Dow Event Center on February 27th as they play host to the Ottawa 67's. The Spirit will travel to Ottawa to take on the 67's on Friday, February 20th at 7:30 p.m. Saturday Saginaw will play Belleville at 7:05 p.m. followed by Kingston on Sunday at 2 p.m. These games can be heard on FM Talk and Sports WSGW 100.5.
