Charleston RiverDogs News Release

LAKEWOOD, N.J. - Graham Stoneburner pitched 7.0 innings of two-hit baseball notching a career-high 11 strikeouts, as the Charleston RiverDogs defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws, 2-0, in South Atlantic League action at FirstEnergy Park Wednesday afternoon.

The RiverDogs have taken two of the first three games this series in upping their record to 12-15, while Lakewood has lost four of five to fall to 14-13.

Stoneburner (1-3), who is rated as the 21st overall prospect in the Yankees system according to *Baseball America, *posted 10 of his 11 strikeouts through 4.0 innings, which included a stretch of seven in a row between the second and fourth frames. The Richmond, Va. native and former Clemson Tiger did not allow a hit until the fifth inning and received fabulous defensive help in his first professional win. The 6'1" right-hander's strikeout total is the most by a RiverDog since Dellin Betances fanned 12 batters against Lakewood in August 2008.

Lakewood first threatened in the fifth, when Darin Ruf walked and attempted to reach third on Adam Buschini's single, but Ray Kruml threw Ruf out at third to thwart the rally.

Charleston took a 1-0 in the sixth against Lakewood starter Nick Hernandez on Jimmy Paredes' bloop RBI single to centerfield.

The lead grew to 2-0 in the seventh, when the RiverDogs had Kyle Higashioka at third and Emerson Landoni at first with two outs. Landoni was picked off first, but remained in a rundown long enough for Higashioka to steal home ahead of the throw to the plate.

Stoneburner was lifted in the eighth for Ronny Marte, who promptly gave up a double to Domingo Santana and an infield single to Torre Langley. With first and third occupied and nobody out, Jonathan Villar grounded softly to the mound. Marte threw to the covering shortstop Kelvin Castro for one out, Castro tossed to Luke Murton at first to turn two, and then Murton's throw to the plate beat Santana trying to score from third to complete the first triple play of 2010.

Marte struck out two in a perfect ninth inning to record his first save since August 2009.

Hernandez (2-1) absorbed a hard-luck loss, allowing just two runs on four hits in 7.0 innings with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Paredes had two of Charleston's five base hits with a RBI, while Lakewood registered four hits by four different players.

The fourth and final game of this series takes place Thursday at 6:35 p.m. New Jersey native and right-hander Sean Black (1-2, 6.66 ERA) receives the ball for Charleston, while Lakewood counters with right-hander Brody Colvin (1-4, 9.41 ERA).
