Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

The West Virginia Power lost 7-2 to the Greensboro Grasshoppers Wednesday evening at Appalachian Power Park. The Grasshoppers capitalized on two home runs to build and extend leads, and the Power could not take advantage of base runners in each of the five four innings.

Hunter Strickland and Bryan Evans matched zeros on the scoreboard over the first two innings. With two out in the third, Strickland surrendered back-to-back singles. Kyle Skipworth cleared the bases with a home run to right to stake the Grasshoppers to a 3-0 edge.

In the Power half of the fourth, Aaron Baker singled and scored on a triple by Rogelio Noris. Noris scored moments later as Jesus Brito singled past the drawn in infield to cut the deficit to 3-2. West Virginia had opportunities to tie the game in the sixth, seventh, and eighth innings, but stranded runners on base in each frame, including a pair in the last of the eighth.

Greensboro plated four runs in the top of the ninth on three hits, including a home run by Justin Bass, and one West Virginia error.

Strickland (0-3) took the loss after allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings, his longest start of the season. Evans (4-0) earned the win with five innings of work, while Alejanero Ramos pitched the final two innings and notched his sixth save in seven chances. Baker had three singles for the only multi-hit game by a Power player. Bass and Brent Weaver had two hits each for the Grasshoppers.

West Virginia and Greensboro close out this four game series on Thursday night at 7:05 pm. Nathan Baker will start for the Power against the Grasshoppers' Erick Carillo.
