Lexington Legends News Release

The Lexington Legends broke their losing streak in a big way Wednesday at Applebee's Park, pounding the Kannapolis Intimidators 17-4. The victory ended a string of six straight Lexington losses as the Legends recorded season highs with the 17 runs and 20 hits.

Kannapolis scored two runs in the top of the first, but the lead didn't last long. Jose Altuve led off the bottom of the first with an infield hit, Jiovanni Mier walked, and J.D. Martinez followed with his third home run of the year to put the Legends in front 3-2.

Lexington added four more runs in the second inning. Andy Simunic doubled, and scored on a base hit by Jonathan Fixler, who had four RBI in the game. Grant Hogue followed with a bunt single, and a single by Altuve, who had four hits, loaded the bases. Mier's sacrifice fly scored Fixler, and after Martinez walked to load the bases again, Jake Goebbert delivered a two-run single, and the Legends led 7-2.

Kannapolis added a run in the third on a double by Rafael Vera and a single by Kyle Colligan, but the Legends came back with three more runs in the bottom of the third. With two outs, Fixler and Hogue singled. Altuve's double scored Fixler, and Mier's single brought home Hogue and Altuve to make the score 10-3.

In the fourth, a sacrifice fly by Fixler and RBI singles by Simunic and Altuve boosted Lexington's lead to 13-3. The Legends added one in the sixth and three in the seventh, one of them scoring on Kody Hinze's league-leading 28th RBI.

Starter Tanner Bushue (2-1) was the winner. He worked seven innings, his longest outing of the year, and allowed 10 hits, but only one earned run.

Justin Collop (0-3) was the starter and loser for Kannapolis. The series continues Thursday night with a 7:05 p.m. game at Applebee's Park.
