Augusta GreenJackets News Release

Augusta, GA - Zack Wheeler struck out nine Greenville Drive hitters and in his fifth pro outing, the righty from Dallas, Georgia earned his first professional victory in a 6-0 Augusta GreenJackets win on Wednesday night.

Wheeler (1-2) fired five shutout innings of two-hit baseball, walking two in addition to his career-high nine punchouts. He combined with Ryan Verdugo and Jose Casilla to limit the Drive to just two hits in the game. Greenville hasn't scored in their last 20 innings, a span reaching back to game one of Tuesday's doubleheader.

Chris Dominguez put the GreenJackets on the board in the third inning, driving in two with a base hit. In the sixth, Augusta added to the lead on Tommy Joseph's solo home run - his fifth of the year and his first hit of the series. A Dominguez groundout in the seventh yielded another run while Augusta got two more in the eighth on RBI hits from Sharlon Schoop and Nick Liles.

Dominguez is 6-10 at the plate in this series with a double and seven runs batted in for the GreenJackets. Schoop and Evan Crawford had two hits each for the Jackets.
