Jersey Shore BlueClaws News Release

LAKEWOOD, NJ - Graham Stoneburner shutdown the Lakewood offense and the BlueClaws fell 2-0 Wednesday afternoon at FirstEnergy Park.

The Charleston right-hander Stoneburner (1-3) struck out 11 batters in seven scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and two walks for his first win of the 2010 season.

At one point from the second inning to the first out of the fourth Stoneburner struck out seven straight BlueClaws.

Lakewood starter Nick Hernandez (2-1) was able to match Stoneburner pitch for pitch up until the top of the sixth inning.

Zoilo Almonte doubled with one out for the RiverDogs second hit of the day, and Jimmy Paredes brought him home one batter later with a base hit to put Charleston up 1-0.

The RiverDogs added to their lead on a bizarre play with two outs in the seventh. With catcher Kyle Higashoika on third, Ray Kruml was caught in a rundown off first by Hernandez. Kruml managed to stay alive long enough however to let Higashoika score from third to extend the lead to 2-0.

The BlueClaws best chance to tie came in the eighth. Domingo Santana led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a Torre Langley base hit. Jonathan Villar then hit a grounder to reliever Ronny Marte, who threw to second for one out with a relay to first for two. Santana then tried to score from third but was gunned down by first baseman Luke Murton for a 1-6-3-2 triple play.

Marte would pitch two scoreless innings for his first save of the season.

Thursday night the BlueClaws will look to split their four game series with the RiverDogs. RHP Brody Colvin (1-4 9.41) will get the nod for Lakewood against RHP Sean Black (1-2, 6.66). First pitch is at 6:35 pm at FirstEnergy Park.
