
Stockton Pounds Modesto to End Road Trip, 14-9

STOCKTON â The Stockton Ports jumped on Nuts starter Tomas Santiago for eight runs in the second inning on Sunday and went on to beat Modesto, 14-9. Home runs by Dustin Majewski (7), Kurt Suzuki (2), Daric Barton (4) and Visili Spanos (3) paced the 13-hit attack. Stockton won despite committing five errors. Danielin Acevedo got the win for Stockton surrendering seven runs on nine hits in five and two-thirds innings. Jared Burton cooled off Modesto with two and one-third no-hit innings. J.R. Pickens gave up two runs in the ninth to close out the game. Joe Gaetti continued his hot hitting with two hits, including his eighth home run of the season.
Modesto finished their longest road trip of the season with a 9-5 record and return home in second place, a game above .500, and three and one-half games behind first place San Jose.
Modesto opens a seven game home stand Monday hosting Bakersfield Blaze. Steven Register goes to the mound for Modesto against the Blaze' Edison Volquez. Game time at John Thurman Field is 7:05 p.m.
