Stockton Ports News Release

The Stockton Ports snapped a season high four-game losing streak by beating the Modesto Nuts 14-9 Sunday afternoon at Banner Island Ballpark in front of 2,231 fans. The Ports pounded four home runs tying a season high, set two Sunday's ago at Banner Island Ballpark.

Stockton went in front with an eight run second inning. Daric Barton drew a leadoff walk from Tomas Santiago. After a Danny Putnam single, Vasili Spanos, in the lineup for the first time since Wednesday, lined a three run home run onto the Sprint Home Run Hill in right field to put Stockton up 3-2. The Ports weren't done in the inning. Luke Appert doubled to right field, John McCurdy singled and Luis Perez drove home Appert with a single to right. After Kurt Suzuki walked, Daric Barton pulled one out to right for the Ports' second three run jack of the inning.

The Nuts scored first, putting two runs on the board in the top of the first inning off Ports' starter Danielin Acevedo who earned his first win of the year. Luis Gaunce doubled, and Matt Macri doubled him home for a 1-0. Macri scored on a sacrifice fly, and Modesto led 2-0 after the first half inning. Modesto got two runs back in the third to make it 8-4.

Stockton expanded their lead to 10-4 in the fourth on a two run Kurt Suzuki homerun to left.

After Modesto closed to within three runs at 10-7 with a three run sixth, chasing Danielin Acevedo, the Ports turned to Jared Burton who threw effectively out of the Ports bullpen again, firing 2.1 innings of hitless ball while fanning five Nuts.

The Ports scored four times in the bottom of the eighth. McCurdy and Appert each drove home runs to save a turn at bat for Dustin Majewski, who at that point was the only hitless Port, and the only Port who hadn't scored a run. Majewski joined the party with a two run homerun hooked down the right field line – his team leading seventh.

The Ports return home for Thirsty Thursday presented by Valley Brew on Thursday at 7:05 to take on the Bakersfield Blaze.
