(Lancaster, CA) â Garrett Mock allowed two runs over eight innings as the Lancaster JetHawks beat the High Desert Mavericks 8-2 on Saturday evening at Clear Channel Stadium at Lancaster, CA. With the win, the JetHawks improve to 18-18 on the year.
Mock (3-2) allowed just six hits and stayed out of any serious trouble in the win. Only twice did High Desert have two men on base in the same inning. Both of the Mavericks runs in the game came on solo home runs.
The JetHawks bats gave Mock all the offense he needed early in the game. Steve Garrabrants led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. Miguel Montero singled in a run, and Jay Garthwaite drove in a third on a sacrifice fly to give the JetHawks a 3-0 lead after an inning.
Brian Rose hit his first home run of the year, with a man on, to extend the lead to 5-2.
Garrabrants collected his second RBI of the game with a double into the left field corner to score Derek Bruce, who led off the fourth of the JetHawks with a single.
The only thing that did not go right for the JetHawks in the game was Alex Frazier failed to extend his 11 game hit streak. The Lancaster left fielder was hitless in four at bats.
The win for the JetHawks was just the second in six games against the Mavericks this season.
The series with the Mavericks continues on Sunday afternoon. Jon Castellanos (2-0 3.46) will make the start for the JetHawks and Cesar Herrara (1-1 5.88) will go to the mound for High Desert in the 2:00 P.M. game.
