The Week That Was...
The South Carolina Stingrays battled the Gwinnett Gladiators in a home-and-home weekend series for a week record of 1-1-0-0.
The Stingrays welcomed the Gladiators to the North Charleston Coliseum on Friday for Fan Appreciation Night and Hall of Fame Night presented by the Post and Courier. Defenseman Damon Kipp and forward Chris Langkow each recorded a goal and an assist and goaltender Ryan Zapolski made 37 saves in front of 8,064. The win helped the Stingrays clinch a Kelly Cup Playoff berth for an ECHL-record 19 season. The Stingrays finished the regular-season home schedule on a season-high 14-game home point streak (12-0-2-0). During the first intermission, former Stingrays forward and team captain Matt Scherer was inducted into the Stingrays Hall of Fame. Before the contest, defenseman Scooter Vaughan was awarded the 2013 Jerry Zucker Community Service Award.
Saturday marked the final regular-season meeting between the Stingrays and Gladiators. Vaughan opened the scoring with an early first-period goal, but the Gladiators rallied for a 2-1 victory at The Arena at Gwinnett Center. The Stingrays finished the season series against Gwinnett with a 6-6-2-0 record.
