Stingrays Weekly: Stingrays Celebrate Thanksgiving with Royals and Jackals

The South Carolina Stingrays wrapped up a six-game road trip this week against the Cincinnati Cyclones and hosted the Florida Everblades and Gwinnett Gladiators for a week record of 1-3-0-0.

The Cyclones and Stingrays met Tuesday morning at U.S. Bank Arena with the home team taking a 3-2 victory. Forward Chris Langkow scored his first goal as a Stingray and Tommy Cross netted his fifth tally of the season.

The Stingrays battled the Everblades in a pair of contests at the North Charleston Coliseum Friday and Saturday night. On Friday, forwards Daniel Koger and Tyler Randell lit the lamp, but the Stingrays could not overcome three shorthanded Everblades goals to fall 4-2. The following night Koger recorded three points (one goal, two assists), forward Hunter Bishop buried two tallies and goaltender Ryan Zapolski made 27 saves in a 3-2 win.

The week wrapped up Sunday afternoon at the Coliseum versus Gwinnett. Forward Shawn Weller scored his fifth goal of the season, but the Gladiators prevailed 2-1.

Taking the Lead

The Stingrays are fifth in the South Division with 15 points and 10th overall in the Eastern Conference.

Defenseman Tommy Cross is second among rookies and among league defensemen with 15 points (five goals, 10 assists). His 10 assists are tied for second among first-year players and his five goals are second among blueliners.

Forward Matthew Pistilli is fourth in the ECHL with 61 shots.

Goaltender Ryan Zapolski is fourth in the ECHL with a 1.93 goals-against average and third with a .926 save percentage. Netminder Shawn Hunwick is 18th with a 2.92 GAA.
