LAST WEEK IN REVIEW
Monday, November 12; Eagles Away Games to be Shown Locally Exclusively at Stuft: a burger bar
The Colorado Eagles of the ECHL announced today that fans can watch all of their road games this season at Stuft: a burger bar, which has two locations in Northern Colorado, one in downtown Ft. Collins (210 S. College Ave.) and another in Windsor (1294 Main St.).
As the exclusive home of Eagles' away broadcasts, Stuft will be the only place in NoCo that Eagles fans can go to watch their road games. The local gourmet burger restaurant offers great food and drink, along with awesome TVs to watch the Eagles via AmericaOne Sports' online broadcast.
Tuesday, November 13; Costello named Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week
(LEAGUE RELEASE - PRINCETON, N.J.) - Chad Costello of the Colorado"ËEagles is the Sher-Wood Hockey ECHL Player of the Week for Nov. 5-11. He also won the award for the week ending Dec. 11, 2011, and it is the second straight week an Eagle has been named Player of the"ËWeek, following Michael Forney last week.
Costello scored four goals and added three assists for seven points in three games last week as the"ËEagles swept a three-game series from Utah, extending their winning streak to five games.
Wednesday, November 14; Special Teams Help Aces Snap Eagles Winning Streak
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces used three special teams goals to snap the Colorado Eagles' five game winning streak with a 4-3 victory. Alaska got two goals on the power play and one shorthanded -- two of which came off the tape of NHL players Joey Crabb & Scott Gomez -- while Colorado, still looking for its first win in Alaska, went 0-for-6 on the man advantage.
Friday, November 16; Aces Edge Eagles, 5-4, in OT
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces defeated the Colorado Eagles, 5-4, in overtime in the second of three games between the teams this week. Alaska got three goals from NHL players to help them come back from an early deficit, keeping Colorado without a road win this season and without a win in Alaska all-time.
Saturday, November 17; NHLers Help Aces Edge Eagles Again, 4-3
ANCHORAGE, Alaska - The Alaska Aces defeated the Colorado Eagles by a one goal margin for the third time in as many games this week, led by plenty of help from their three NHL players, Joey Crabb, Scott Gomez & Nate Thompson. The trio combined for six of the Aces' 11 points on the night, including their first three goals, helping build a lead that a late Colorado push couldn't quite match.
THE WEEK AHEAD
Wednesday, November 21, Friday, November 23 & Saturday, November 24; Colorado Hosts First Eastern Conference Opponent, Starts at Top With ECHL Champion Florida Everblades
Last season -- the Eagles' first in the ECHL -- they played exclusively within the Western Conference. This season, they'll play three teams from the Eastern Conference, starting with this week's three game set at the Budweiser Events Center against the defending champion Florida Everblades. After claiming the ECHL title with an outstanding balance of offense and defense, the 'Blades have struggled on the defensive side of things so far this season. That's part of the reason they have a record of 6-6-3, good for a middle-of-the-pack mark in the Eastern Conference. And like the Eagles, Florida has had their struggles on the road as well, posting just a 1-3-2 record away from Germain Arena in the Estero/Ft. Myers area.
NOTABLE NUMBERS
ROAD WOES - The Eagles have played just five games away from the Budweiser Events Center this season, but they are still looking for their first road win of the year. Colorado is 0-3-2 away from home, losing a shootout in Utah (on a disputed double-tap goal) and an overtime game in Alaska last Friday. The five game winless streak matches the second-longest in team history, one away from the record of six. Wheeling -- which resides in last place in the ECHL -- is the only other team in the league without a win on the road (0-6-2).
A LEAGUE OF THEIR OWN - The Aces have received plenty of production from their NHL players so far in the season series against the Eagles. Of the 43 points they've tallied through five games, 18 -- or 41.9% -- have come off the tape of Scott Gomez, Nate Thompson, Joey Crabb and Brandon Dubinsky.
TOP LINE - Colorado's top line of Chad Costello, Jack Combs & Michael Forney is also the top line in the entire ECHL. Costello (the league's reigning MVP) leads the ECHL in points (27) and assists (21), Combs ranks 2nd in points (26) and Forney is tied for 1st in goals (11). The latter ranks 6th in the league in points (20).
STREAKLY SPEAKING - A few Eagles players are riding extended point streaks. Chad Costello has registered a point in nine straight games (5-14-19) and Joey Sides (who leads the league with a +11 plus/minus rating) has registered a point in seven straight games (5-6-11), highlighted by a five-game goal streak at the start.
START AT THE TOP - The Eagles will play their first game(s) against an ECHL Eastern Conference team this week when they host a three-game set against the defending ECHL champion Florida Everblades. The Everblades defeated the Las Vegas Wranglers in five games -- taking the final four in a row -- to claim the Kelly Cup in May. They did so by leading the playoffs in both goals for (3.67) and against (1.72) per game.
NAMES TO KNOW - Matt Marquardt was the Everblades' 2nd-leading scorer in last year's playoff run, posting 18 points (6-12-18) in as many games. This season he's their leading scorer with 20 points (8-12-20) in 15 games. Mathieu Roy is 2nd on the team with 18 points (7-11-18) in 14 games. And Eagles fans will recognize David Rutherford, who led the CHL's Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs to the 2011 Presidents' Cup title with 22 points (12-10-22) in 20 games.
DEFENSIVE DROP-OFF - The Everblades led last year's playoffs by allowing just 1.72 goals/game, backstopped by Pat Nagle (1.42 GAA) and John Muse (1.78 GAA). Despite that duo once again making up Florida's goalie group, the team is allowing over two goals more per game this season (3.87). Nagle has a GAA of 3.50 & Muse has a GAA of 4.41.
