Stingrays Sweep Wings with 4-1 Victory

North Charleston, SC -The South Carolina Stingrays (27-9-2-4) defeated the Kalamazoo Wings (21-12-4-0) 4-1 in front of 6,195 at North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. Stingrays forward Michael Dubuc netted two goals and Spencer Carbery posted a shorthanded goal and an assist in the series-sweeping victory.
Stingrays forward Keith Johnson started the scoring on the power play at 4:39 of the first period knocking in a rebound past Wings goaltender Ryan Nie. Defenseman Grant Farrell and rookie Nikita Kashirsky recorded the assists. The Wings tied the contest at one at 6:49 as forward Andrew Fournier buried a backdoor pass from Brian McGuirk along the right-wing post of Stingrays goaltender Shane Connelly. Matt Jones earned the second assist on Fournier's 17 goal of the season.
The Stingrays reclaimed the lead at 6:16 of the second period with a shorthanded goal from Carbery. Carbery tucked a shot between the legs of Nie from the bottom of the right-wing circle for his eighth tally of the season. Rookie Jake Hauswirth received the lone assist.
Dubuc gave the Stingrays a 3-1 lead at 4:38 of the third period knocking in a bouncing pass from defenseman Johann Kroll along the left-wing post. Dubuc netted his second goal of the night at 12:53 from Carbery and Johnson to ice the win for the Stingrays. Connelly earned his seventh win of the season and second against the Wings stopping 21 of 22 shots. Nie suffers his sixth loss of the year kicking away 31 of 35 Stingrays chances. The Stingrays finished the night 1-for-4 on the power play while the Wings ended the contest 0-for-3.
The Stingrays close the three-in-three home weekend Sunday, January 16 as they host the Gwinnett Gladiators at a special start time of 12:30 p.m. for Dog Days of Winter with Pet Helpers. Fans can bring their dogs to the matinee contest for only $5 with all the proceeds going towards Pet Helpers. Sunday is also Kid's Day featuring $5 kid's tickets.
