
'Blades Return Home Victorious, Beat Trenton 3-1

TRENTON, NJ-- The Florida Everblades concluded their 11 game road trip Saturday night with a contest against the Trenton Devils. The teams skated to a scoreless first period before exchanging goals in the second. Trenton scored first off of forward Tony Zancanaro. Newcomer Mike Bayrack answered back and scored the equalizer at 16:15. Florida took the lead 2-1 early in the third period when Jordan Morrison notched the game winner. Mathieu Roy scored an empty netter at 17:27 to secure the win 3-1.
The Florida Everblades and the Trenton Devils played a socreless first period. Trenton had several scoring opportunities, outshooting the Everblades 11-9, but goaltender Barry Brust came out to challenge and shut down the Trenton offense. Neither team had many special teams opportunities with only two combined penalties called at 9:39 and 10:17.
Florida came out with more spunk in the second stanza. The Trenton Devils commited back to back penalties to keep Florida's momentum.
During the Florida's power play Trenton had a 2 on 1 opportunity against Barry Brust. Brust stepped up and gobbled the puck and Chris Capraro broke towards the Trenton end. Despite the Everblades second ranked penalty kill, Trenton siezed their power-play opportunity when Colin Nicholson was whistled for hooking and recored a power-play maker off the stick of Tony Zancanaro. Florida's Mike Bayrack answered back with his first tally in an Everblades uniform. His third goal of the season was assisted by Kevin Baker and Elgin Reid. The period concluded deadlocked at 1-1.
Trenton took two early penalties in the third and it was all the Everblades needed to take the lead. Matt Duffy set the play by passing the puck to Ernie Hartlieb who slipped it to Jordan Morrison. Jordan Morrison scored his sixth goal of the season by beating netminder Dave Caruso and making the score 2-1. With 2:33 remaining in the third period the Devils pulled their goaltender for an extra attacker. Off the draw Mathieu Roy put it into the net to make the final score 3-1 in favor of Florida.
With the win the Everblades finish an 11 game road trip that saw them take on divisional foes South Carolina, Charlotte, and Gwinnet before facing northern opponents Elmira, Reading, and Trenton. The 'Blades had a strong performance, posting wins against Gwinnett, Charlotte, Reading, and Trenton. They return to Germain Arena on Friday January 22, 2010 at 7:30 to battle the Gwinnett Gladiators with a record of 20-15-6.
