Alaska Aces News Release

ANCHORAGE, Alaska - Matt Stefanishion had a goal and an assist while Frank Doyle remained unbeaten in net with Alaska in a 3-1 decision over Las Vegas before 4,494 Friday night at Sullivan Arena.

Without the injured Eric Boguniecki and Colin Hemingway and the promoted John Lammers (who played for Providence Friday), the Aces dressed just 13 regulars in addition to part-time players Merit Waldrop and Jim Dahl. Waldrop delivered his second assist in three games for Alaska on Alexandre Imbeault's goal which opened the scoring at 10:02. Less than two minutes later, Stefanishion broke in from the right wing on a line rush while Scott Burt (hobbled but in the lineup) drove the net. Stefanishion's centering pass glanced off the pads of Las Vegas goalie Michael Ouzas and into mid-air, where Stefanishion whacked the puck home on his backhand side for a 2-0 Aces lead after 20 minutes.

The Wranglers got on the board just 22 seconds into the second period when Josh Prudden stuffed home a centering pass, but Doyle held sway over the remaining 40 minutes, finishing with 24 saves to improve his personal record since joining Alaska to 4-0-1 (2.36 GAA,.922 save pct.). Alaska outshot its opponent for just the eighth time in 38 games (32-25) and put the game away when Stefanishion found a streaking Burt on the left wing, then watched as the captain buried a wrist shot in the top right corner with 3:14 remaining in the contest. Imbeault and Stefanishion each finished +2 and combined for 17 shots on goal.

Alaska (17-18-3) now sits 6-2-1 on its 10-game homestand, which concludes tomorrow night against Las Vegas at 7:15 p.m, with live coverage on KFQD 750 AM beginning 15 minutes prior to face-off. The Wranglers, meanwhile, have dropped three straight to fall a game under.500 overall (16-17-4) and own just one victory in their last 15 games on the road (1-11-3).
