
Stingrays Sweep Royals with 4-3 Win

Reading, PA - Forward Pierre-Luc O'Brien registered a goal and two assists as the South Carolina Stingrays (21-16-1-1) extended their winning streak to six games with a 4-3 victory over the Reading Royals (15-16-3-3) at the Sovereign Center Monday afternoon. The Stingrays finished the regular-season series against the Royals 4-0-0-0.
Royals forward Dennis McCauley grabbed the game's opening goal at 9:19 of the first period sliding a backhanded shot past the glove of Stingrays goaltender Philipp Grubauer (W, 18 saves 21 shots). Forward Casey Haines earned the lone assist. The Stingrays responded on the power play with forward Mike Hamilton's second goal of the season blasting a rebound past Royals netminder Karel St. Laurent (L, 29 saves on 33 shots) from between the faceoff circles. Forward Trent Campbell and defenseman Nick Tabisz recorded assists. Moments later, Royals forward Yannick Tifu made it 2-1 from McCauley at 12:49.
The Stingrays tied the contest back up at 6:32 of the second frame when defenseman Brett Flemming fired a shot under the blocker of St. Laurent at the right-wing point from O'Brien and Maxime Lacroix. Forward Kenny Ryan gave the Royals a 3-2 lead at 13:45 with help from defensemen Ryan Button and Rob Kwiett.
Stingrays defenseman Zach Tarkir knotted the contest 36 seconds into the third period from O'Brien and Campbell. O'Brien deflected in the game-winning marker at 14:29 from Flemming and Lacroix. The Stingrays ended the afternoon 1-for-3 on the power play while the Royals went 0-for-1.
