Hoffman Estates, IL - The Chicago Express, proud member of the ECHL and proud affiliate of the NHL's Columbus Blue Jackets, saw their struggles on the road continue, earning one point last week while going 0-2-0-1 in three games against Florida. The Express are now 16-15-4-2, and their 38 points places them second in the North Division, seven points behind Kalamazoo.

The Express got out to an early lead, as LW Chad Painchaud struck 3:40 into the first period. The lead was short-lived, as the Everblades tied the game at 1-1 just 1:13 later, and led 2-1 heading into the second period. An early Florida goal was countered by RW Chaz Johnson late in the second period, but Florida tallied their fourth goal of the night with 29 seconds left in the stanza to lead 4-2 going into the third period. It was all Florida in the third, as the Everblades tacked on three more goals to win 7-2.

After the Everblades scored a goal in the first period and a second early in the second, F Drew Akins deflected home a shot from D Jonathan Zion to put the Express on the board and cut the score to 2-1. Florida struck back with a power play goal at 13:37 of the frame, but LW Chad Painchaud scored his second goal in as many nights with 1:14 left in the second to make the game 3-2 heading into the closing period. Neither team was able to score in the third, until Chicago pulled the goalie for an extra attacker and Florida scored on the empty net for the 4-2 victory.
Saturday, January 14

Chicago and Florida traded goals in the opening frame, with D Josh Burrows, who was skating as a forward, striking for Chicago at 16:26 to even the score at 1-1. Florida scored twice in the second period, but the Chicago power play came alive in the third, as F Pierre-Luc Faubert and RW Tyler Donati each tallied power play markers to send the game into overtime. G Peter Mannino stopped six shots in the sudden death period to help the Express get the game to shootout. 15 rounds were required to decide a winner, where the Everblades eventually came out victorious for the 4-3 win.

F Drew Akins, who joined the Express on Friday, scored his first professional goal in his first game for Chicago.The Express competed in their longest shootout on Saturday night, as 15 rounds and 30 shooters were required to decide the outcome of the game.G Peter Mannino played in his first game for the Express on Friday.Chicago scored two power play goals on Saturday night, marking the first time they have scored multiple power play goals in a single game since a shootout win over Kalamazoo on December 9, a span of 14 games.Chicago struggles on the road have continued, as the Express are 0-7-2-1 in their last 10 road games.The Express have killed 24 of their last 26 penalties, a 92.3 percent kill rate, in their last six games.
