South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, S.C. - Forward Ryan Hayes scored early in the first period, but the South Carolina Stingrays (30-24-3-3) fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators (34-23-2-1) 2-1 in overtime at the North Charleston Coliseum Tuesday night.

Hayes opened the scoring 5:31 into the first period catching a pass from forward Andrew Sackrison at the far post and lifting a shot over the glove of Gladiators goaltender Jody O'Neill (W, 16 saves on 17 shots). Defenseman Nicholas Kuqali added the second assist.

The Gladiators tied the contest and snapped the shutout streak of Stingrays netminder Ryan Zapolski (OTL, 23 saves on 25 shots) at 212 minutes and 32 seconds with a tally from rookie forward Evan Bloodoff at 8:15 of the second period. Zapolski fell shy of the Stingrays' team record for shutout minutes played by approximately eight minutes. Gwinnett held to the Stingrays to three shots in the second frame.

The two sides needed overtime to decide a winner and at 2:38 of the extra session, Gladiators forward Yuri Bouharevich completed the comeback deflecting a shot from defenseman Ryan Donald between the legs of Zapolski for the game-winning tally. Both sides wrapped up the contest 0-for-3 on the power play.
