Stingrays' Leading Scorer Peter Boyd Earns Promotion to AHL

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach and Director of Hockey Operations Spencer Carbery announced today that forward Peter Boyd has been loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American Hockey League (AHL).

Boyd, 25, leads the Stingrays and is tied for 15 in the ECHL with 28 points (11 goals, 17 assists) in 33 games, scored his first professional hat trick last Saturday in a 3-0 win over the Greenville Road Warriors and has five goals and nine assists in his last 11 contests. After being acquired at the ECHL trade deadline from the Bakersfield Condors last season, the Cambridge-Narrows, New Brunswick, native recorded four goals and six assists for 10 points in 10 games with the Stingrays and pitched in a goal in four Kelly Cup Playoff contests. In 50 games with the Condors, Boyd registered 29 points (18 goals, 11 assists).

Prior to turning pro, the 5-foot-10, 190-pound forward attended Ohio State University for four seasons acquiring 113 points (39 goals, 74 assists) in 159 games. After his senior season (2010-11), Boyd saw action in the American Hockey League with the Lake Erie Monsters, picking up one assist in 11 games.

The Stingrays travel to Estero, Florida to battle the Florida Everblades on Friday, January 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 11 at 7:00 p.m. and return to the North Charleston Coliseum to host the Greenville Road Warriors on Tuesday, January 14 at 7:05 p.m. for 2x2 Tuesday presented by Bud Light!
