Wiles Goes Wild in 6-2 Win for Reading

READING, PA- Last Tuesday in Wheeling, Sean Wiles posted a four-point game, dishing out four assists in a 4-1 victory for the Reading Royals. On Wednesday night, Wiles did his work scoring the goals, as he lit the lamp three times, while adding one assist, as the Royals defeated the Wheeling Nailers 6-2 at Santander Arena.
A little more than halfway through the first period, the Royals opened the scoring, thanks to a power play goal. Marvin Degon worked the puck around to Michal Cajkovsky at the top of the left circle. Cajkovsky glided in, before blasting a slap shot into the left side of the net. With just four seconds to go in the stanza, Reading extended the lead. Matt Campanale swung the puck around the boards to Yannick Tifu in the right corner. Tifu centered a pass of his own to Sean Wiles, who proceeded to pick the top-right corner from the slot for a 2-0 lead after twenty minutes.
The middle frame featured a plethora of scoring, beginning with a pair of markers by the Royals. Sean Wiles connected for his second of the night at the 3:48 mark, as he fired home a one-timer off of a feed from Ryan Cruthers. Less than five minutes later, Cruthers found the back of the net, as he tipped in the rebound of Michal Cajkovsky's chance from the top of the left circle. The end of the period began to swing Wheeling's way, as the Nailers battled back to within two. Max MacKay netted the first tally, when he finished off a cross-crease pass by Sahir Gill. Mike Ratchuk started the play with a one-timer, off of a pass by Nick D'Agostino. Then, with 57 seconds remaining, Chaz Johnson slipped a shot through Brandon Anderson's legs from the left face-off dot. MacKay and Gill earned the assists for their second points of the night.
The score remained 4-2 until the 17:11 mark of the third period, when Reading put the icing on its victory. Yannick Tifu took a drop pass from Sean Wiles, before wristing the puck to Ryan Cruthers, who scored on a redirect from the right side of the slot. In the final minute of the tilt, Wiles fired in an empty net goal while playing shorthanded, but had it waved off for offsides. So, a few seconds later, he duplicated the feat, finishing off the 6-2 final score.
Brandon Anderson ended a five-game winless streak for the Royals, making 23 saves on 25 shots. Brooks Ostergard was the losing goaltender for the Nailers, turning away 30 of the 35 shots he faced.
The Nailers will return home on Thursday night for a 7:00 game against the Cincinnati Cyclones.
